Pilots are only educated on the bare minimum of how our planes are built and run. No one has had a CFI take the cowling off of a plane and walk us through the systems. This leaves us knowing very little about the vehicle that we frequently trust our lives too. We frequently assume that the “mechanic will take care of it.”, which is a dangerous philosophy.
After 17 years of flying, I knew very little about the the aircraft I flew. However, once I built my first two airplanes, I was forced to understand every inch of the airframe, engine, and controls. The experience doesn’t give us the liberty of unanswered questions or assumptions. This experience changed my pilot career and was the best education I have ever received.
As a result of building aircraft, I now perform preflight and post-flight inspections differently, and I fly and land aircraft differently as well. I also now wholeheartedly believe that every pilot should be required to go through a 1-2 hour intense aircraft walkthrough as a part of getting a private pilot license.
Whether you are a new pilot, or a 25 year veteran, this seminar will help you understand all of the aspects of a small plane. We will literally walk around a plane from tip to tail and look at specific components. We will cover topics such as: corrosion, fasteners, oils and lubrication, torque and tension specs, tire wear, painting and priming, engine parts, airframe parts, preventative maintenance, radios, wiring, lighting, battery care, windows, myth busting, etc. We will also answer ongoing questions and hand out reference material that you can take with you.
Come out and join us for this fun and informative session!
